CONCLUDING PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Baptist Conference to-day, the' debate on the motion relating to the? opium traffic was resumed. Some difference of opinion was expressed as to the wording of the motion, which was originally to the effect that the Unionplace on record its sense of the huge disgrace attaching to the nation through its connection with the opium traffic and regretting that Britain still held China to the Treaty of Tientsin and compelled' her to receive Indian opium, and hoping that China will be offered instant freedom from the bondage of the treaty. The motion, slightly amended, wasadopted. A motion was also carried commending to the attention of the churches the memorial of the British members of theWorld's Missionary Conference urging all churches to call public attention to the shame of the Indian Government's opium monopoly and continued insistence on treaty rights whereby China was still forced against repeated protests and heroic sacrifices and against undoubted rights 9.s a sovereign State to continue to receive this deadly drug. • The budget in connection with the Indian missions at Chandpur and Brahmanbaria was submitted by Mr. H. Hotzr (Wellington). The estimated expenditure, including a debit balance of £152,. was shown at £2M), and the estimated' receipts at £2OOO.
