LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph.—Press Association.. Wellington, Last Night. JUDICATURE AMENDMENT BILL. In the Legislative Council this afternoon, on the motion of) the Attorne'yGeneral, the amendments made by theHouse of Representatives to the CrimesBill were agreed to. Dr. Findlay remarked that the placing of the Bill on the Statute Book would be due almost entirely to the good work of the Council. 'The Attorney-General moved the second reading of the Judicature Amendment Bill, which provides—(l) That where there are two Registrars of the Supreme Court in one district, every reference made to the Registrar is to beconstrued as /being a reference to each Registrar and the powers conferred shall' be exercisable by any one of those Registrars; (2) that where a person neglects or refuses to execute any conveyance, contract or other document or to endorse any negotiable instrument, as ordered by .the (Supreme Court, the Court may order any such document to be executed or endorsed by such person as it may nominate for the purpose. The second reading was agreed to. The adjourned debate on the second reading of the Defence Bill was resumed. The Hons. Loughnan,.Callan and Wi Pere expressed approval of the Bill. The debate was adjourned.

Mr. Buddo moved the second reading of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Bill, which, he explained, gave effect to some of the recommendations carried at the Municipal Conference. He went through file clauses of the Bill and promised to explain its provisions more fully when it reached the committee stage. # Mr. Fraser admitted the Bill was an improvement on the last, as it stood, but it was far from carrying out the- recommendations of the Municipal Conference, many of which had mot been given effect to at 'all. He hoped the Minister would" have these recommendations published in circular form for the information of members. Mr. Wilford expressed disappointment that the recommendations of the Municipal Conference on many important matters had not been carried out. Ell hoped provision would be made giving municipalities power to establish fish and other markets. The Bill would' make many desirable alterations in the present law.
