DEEP SEA HOAX.
ALLEGED MESSAGE FROM THE WARATAH. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 7, 6 p.m. Sydney, October 6. The forest ranger at Wilson's Promontory yesterday picked up a bottle near the South, Derby river. The cork was much worn, and the bottle had apparently been in the water some time. It contained the following message: ''At sea latitude 40 south. The steamer Waratah broke down August 23, 1909, and is drifting south. All well, but anxious. Engineers busy.—J. C. Jones, passenger.'' The message asked 1 the finder to write to "Mrs. Jones, Sydney." Enquiries here show that no J. C. Jones was a passenger on tile Waratah and no Mrs. Jones lives at the address given.
