Mr. Davios, whilst making an excavah tion in sandstone at Waiwera,', cam* across a peculiar insect, which no one seems able to name or to remember ho»> ing seen one similar. About two inches long, of a sandy color, it has six lege ami wings. In appearance it is not unlike the "hu hu" (this is spelt phonetfcally)| or a large locust. It has a peculiar mouth, having a large underlipj with! which it appears to drawn in substance to the mouth proper.
