When/a business man of some thirty odd yearjl' standing in the place is prepared to gjtfe that price for a section, it is a very fair indication of its value and the purchaser's opinion of the future of the town. A fa,w years ago the same section wee leased at about £4 per annum, but the then tenant threw up his lease.
Applications close to-morrow for the position of waterworks foreman to the Borough Council.
Dairy factories in the district all report an increased supply of milk in com* parison with the same time lart year. Both North Traneki and Wattara Dairy companies are making from five to fright boxes more than last September. It is reported {faat a firm is desiron* of getting the triangular laid beside the shed on the wharf, owned by Wood Bros., with a view to erecting a wholesale business premises. * Mr. Bickerton, of pyrotechnie fame, is expected at Waitara on Monday to ar» range for a display. Enquiries are being made for another of the Harbor Board sites in street, at the back of the Masonic Hotel. Let 'em all come.
The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was held in the Foresters'' Hall on Wednesday evening, Mr. J. Harrison occupying the chair. The balance-sheet, which showed the income, inclusive of £3 10t 4d brought forward from the previous year, to be £SB 10s 4d> and the expenditure £37 5s Oct, leaving a credit balance of £2l> 4s 10d, was adopted. Croquet accounts, which are kept separate from tb» ordinary account, showed receipts to be £9 and expenses £4 18s 3d. The Club's liabilities are nil, and the assets are set down as £SB 2s 4oV an exceedingly satisfactory position. The hon. auditor referred to the excellent'way aoconntehad* been kept by the secretary, Mr. L. H. Sampson, remarks which were endorsed by the chajrman. The following officers were elected-: President, Mr. H.* E. Gilbert; vice-presidents, Messrs. 0. S. Fraßer, A. M. Borthwick, L. B. Grim- ' stone, Rev. Harrison, H. E. Vaughan and Dr. Ramago; auditor, M. 0. S. Eraser; secretary, Mr. A. H. Passau; committee. Messrs. W. Bent, S. Eggleston, P. Allen, L. H. Sampson, Allen, Eraser, Misses B. Bayly and K. Kilbert; ground commit. tee, Messrs. Allen, Harrison and Passau. It was decided to reduce membership fee for gentlemen from 30s to 255. Mr. R. J. White, of New Plymouth, an old member of the Club, was asked to act as the Club's delegate to the Association. As a mark of appreciation for services rendered as hon. secretory for many years, Mr. L. H. Sampson was elected an honorary life member of the Olub. New rules were submitted and adopted, with some slight alterations. The first annual ball in connection with the North Taranaki Mounted Rifles, held on Thursday evening, was a most successful function. The hall had been nicely decorated by members of the corps, the floor was in good order, the music excellent, and a most enjoyable evening was spent.
