GUARDS' COMPETITION. The first of the shoots for the oil painting presented by Captain Cook to the Guards was fired for yesterday. There was a very strong and variable wind, ranging from 20 degrees to 12; nevertheless Corporal Bruce put on the fine score of 100 out of 105. The following are the detailed scores:—

RAHOTU CLUB. The Rahotu Rifle Club held another shoot for the trophy on Saturday, when Mr. A. Baker, the veteran of the Club, obtained his second leg in. The conditions are that the trophy must be won tour times before becoming the absolute property of any individual member. Messrs. A. Baker, Tylee, and Clare have two wins, whilst seven other members have one win. ' Interest in .shootin* is well maintained, and a gratifying feature is the marked improvement "shown 'by our young shots. The conditions were seven shots, each at 200 and 300 yards. J. Christian, with 32 at 200vds and a possible at 300, made the .best score oft the gun, Individual scores were ■ as follows:
