DEADLOCK CONTINUES. GENERAL BOTHA'S POSITION. By Cable.- -Press Association.—Copyright Received September 22, 9.50 p.m. Capetown, September 22. The deadlock in the Cabinet continues. General Botha resigns unless Mr. Hull reconsiders his refusal to remain in office, lord Gladstone would then summon Mr. Merriman. There is intense rivalry between the Cape and Transvaal as a result of the polls. The result indicated doubt as to whether the country agrees with General Botha's determined non-social policy. Hisi defeat resulted, in a heavy slump in Pretoria property. *» The Times' Johannesburg correspondent expresses the opinion that means will be found for General Botha retaining the Premiership.
