ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FALL FROM A TRAIN. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Last Night. Harry Harvey, of Toko, a passenger by the midday goods train from Hawera to Waitiira, fell off the train about a quarter of a mile south of Inglewood. He was brought into Bergin's Hotel and examined by Dr. Nutting, who found that no bones were broken. Harvey received a severe shock, and was much bruised and bleeding profusely about the face. A NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Inglewood, Last Ni.tit. An accident which might have been attended with fatal results occurred here to-day. A man named Harvey, from Toko, fell off the 2 p.m. train from Stratford, about two yards above the Karapete bridge. The'engine-driver of the New Plymouth train, leaving Inglewood, noticed him lying alongside the rails, and immediately reported the matter at the station. A stretcher was sent up, and the man was carried to an express and conveyed to Birgin's Hotel. There he was attended by Dr. Nutting, who had been hastily summoned. An examination failed to reveal any serious injuries beyond a badly bruised shoulder and head. There were also some nasty gashes in his head, which were bleeding freely when the man was found. KILLED BY A TRAIN. Auckland, Last Night. A man named John McGuire, about 30 years of age, who it is believed was a resident of Auckland, was killed on the railway between Matapuna and Tauma runui to-day.
