' NOT A ".TIN POT*' FORCE. By Gable,—Press Association—Copyright Ottawa, September 14. Commander Roper, of the Canadian Navy, denounced the remarks made at a recent Ottawa luncheon by opponents of the Government's naval policy, and objected to the term "tin pot navy." He added that the cruiser programme •was correct. Dreadnoughts might cost more than Canada could afford. The navy should be kept apart from party politics. A SAILOR'S DUTY. The Ottawa Free Press (liberal) endorses the sentiments in Commander Roper's speech, but rebukes Roper by saying, "A sailor's first duty is to keep his mouth closed."
