RIFLE SHOOTING.

OKATO RIFLE CLUB. Last Saturday the first of a series of three matches between the bachelors ami married men of the club, was fired on the local range. The conditions are: one shoot at 500 "and 600 yards, one at 200 and 600, and a third at 200 and 500 yards; the losers in two out of the three to provide a trophy for competition among the members of the cluib. The married men turned up in force —every one being present—and outnumbered their opponents by 12 to 10, but the single men, by repeating their lowest score twice to make up their deficiency in men, secured the match by the narrow margin of 7 points. Best range scores were made by Rflm. Jenkins 374, Rflm. Penwarden and (Putt 33 each, at 500 yards, and Rflm. Jordan 33 at 600 yards. Afternoon tea was provided on the range by the Okato ladies, whose kindness was greatly appreciated by the competing marksmen. Perhaps tlip* presence of the ladies may have ha<J ; something to do with- the record muster of shootist (22); if so, it is to bts hoped that their visits will take place' much oftener. Next Saturday the team arrangements will be somewhat differently fixed. Instead of all the scores being counted, all members will fire as before, but only the best eight scorers on each side will be counted. This course will be taljen so as to obviate the necessity of having recourse to that unsatisfac'-. torv method of repeating the lowest scores. All members are particularly requested to attend. As many members have to return to milk, firing will commence at 11 a.m. Appended are the day's scores: —
