Following heavy thunderstorms there were floods in Gladstone and the surrounding districts. Houses were flooded, and much damage was done to roads. Walter Gale, while crossing the flood on horseback, was washed away and drowned. SUSPECTED SMALLPOX. Adelaide, September o. The steamer Kazembe, from Singapore, has been ordered into quarantine, having a suspected case of smallpox aboard. LOSS OF THE HELGA. Brisbane, September 5. The Makura landed a portion of the crew of the barquentine Helga, recently wrecked at Honolulu. Tliev had a trying time keeping the water down, and claim that if assistance had been at hand promptly when the vessel anchored off Honolulu she would have been saved. GETTING BACK THEIR OWN. Perth, September 5. The Court gave judgment in the cases against Black, the embezzling accountant, and his wife, ordering the repayment of £1349 to Messrs. Freedinan.
