BATHURST-SYDXEY ROAD RACE. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received September 4, 7.45 p.m. Sydney, September 4. The Bathurst-Sydney cycle road race, of 133 miles, was won by Foxover. The race was promoted by the Barnet Glass and Rubber Company. The weather was fine and the roads good. There were sixty starters, and Foxover had 41 minutes' start. Alpin was scratch man, and led the whole way, covering the journey in 8 hrs. 2 min. 4i)see. F. Wileott made the fastest time, 7-hrs. 27 min. lOsec.
TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE. WON BY W. ARNST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Timaru-Christchurch road race was run under favourable weather conditions, and the fastest time, which was put by A. B. L. Smith (Linwood) sen, viz., shr 30min 27 4-ssec, constitutes -a record for the race. Following is the result:— W. Arnst (St. Albans) 25min., 1; C. G. Chapman (Napier) 3omin., 2; A. G. Donald (Palmerston North) 21%min., 3; E. Wall (Halswell) 3iy 3 min." 4; P. Humn (Spreydon) 20mrn., 5; F. (BE. Arnst (Ladbrook) 3Smin., (i; C. H. Lawton (Christchurch) 29min., 7; L. Young (Winchester) 3Gmin., 8; J. McTcigue (Halswell) 15min., ( J; H. Edwards (Halswell) 2.5min., 10. The winner is an elder brother" ol Dick and Jack Arnst, He is 31 years of age. He stated that the race was a good one with good roads and sound pace throughout. He won after a hard finish by ten yards from Chapman.
