GRADING OF BUTTER. r " " ,'i i By Telegraph. —Press Association. 1 « Wellington, Last Night, Members representing the dairying districts met to-night to hear tiohs made on .behalf of the dairy oom« panies, by Messrs. Ilarkness and MoPar* lane. These gentlemen asked that graders with colonial experience should be sent Home. It was pointed out that meat was graded, and there was every, reason w"hy butter also should he graded* Butter which left the Dominion &s "first grade" was reported: to be fishy when it was landed. Mr. McXab, when Minister for Agriculture, had sent Mr. Cuddie Home, but no grader had been sent after him to carry on the work winch lie had laid the foundation of. The Dairy Association was prepared to pay the passage of a grader Home. The deputation also urged that the companies should be allowed to appoint any person outside the New Zealand Accountants' Association to act as their auditor. There were 2200 accountants in tlie Association, of whom 450 are public accountants, and the balance registered accountants. Cooperative dairy companies did not issue shares to the general public, but only to suppliers, and when a supplier left the district he had- to sell his shares to the remaining shareholders. Hence the public interest was not consulted! Members generally expressed sympat&Jg with the requests of the deputation. .
