ALLEGED BRUTAL ASSAULT
GIRL BADLY INJURED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The Supreme Court' opened here today. Albert Edward McQueen, a young man, was charged (I) with violently assaulting Gertrude Carey, aged twentyfive, with intent to render her incapable of resistance; (2) with, committing an indecent assault; and (3) assaulting with intent to commit rape. The evidence for the Crown -was to the effect that the man, at 8 o'clock in the morning, came upon the girl when walking through the Park (almost in the centre of the town), and so brutally assaulted faer that her face, when the doctor saw her at noon, was nearly twice the normal size. The screaming of the girl attracted a woman passing at some distance, and the man decamped. The girl recognised the accused, and he was also identified by two men as having been .seen immediately afterwards in the Park. The case was unfinished when the Court rose.
