INGLEWOOD NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A dance held under the auspices of the Ladies' Hockey Club on Thursday last was exceedingly well attended. It .was arranged as a farewell function to Miss Elsie Andrews, who for some seasons has captained the Inglewood team. During the evening Mr. H. A. Stratford, vice-president, announced that, owing to the absence of Mr. J. H. Rowe, president, the pleasant duty of making a presentation to Miss Andrews on behalf of the Hookey Club, had fallen to him. The gift was a gold brooch. Mr. Stratford regretted that Miss Andrews should leave, and; wished her every happiness in her new home. He also presented Misa Andrews ■with a. ihockey stick (a donation by Dr. Gault to the member who ihad been most useful to the Club during the last season). To Mifea E. Harvey he presented a gold brooch, given by Mrs. Martin to the best improved player during the season, while Miss I. Young received a handsome silver crystal inkstand, presented by Mr. J. H. Rowe for the second 'best improved player. Mr. T. E. Hamerton responded suitably on behalf of all the young ladies. Mr. Stratford then called for three cheers for the (Ladies' Hockey Club, which were oiven with right goodwill, aftcfr which supper was served. Mr. ; H. Cottier and family supplied excellent music, while Mr. Priest acted as M.C. During the evening Miss E. Webby, of Eltham, favored the company with a song, which was much appreciated. GOLF. .First Round of Men's Championship.— Glassford beat Biernacki, 2 up; GudGlassford beat Biernacki, 2 up; Gudgeon beat Ha worth. 8 up and 0 to play; Billing beat W. J. Matthews 'by default;, Gault beat Moody, 4 up and 3 to play; Law beat H. Thomson, 2 up. By winning this match Law obtains first place on the ladder.
