AMUSEMENTS.
BIOGRAPH PICTURE COMPANY.. - The enterprising Biograph Picture Co. have at a great expense secured the services of Mr. C. L. Ardell, the eccentric equillibrist, King of all equillibrists, and Miss Fannie Hall,, the world-famed balancer, for two nights only—Friday and Saturday~'nexL Mr. Ardell's performance is wonderful aad amusing, into which the element of novelty largely enters. It is an acrobatic turn, u Knockabout comedy turn, and an equillibnstic exhibition all rolled into* one. Mr. Axdell balances himself ou one hand on the top of a walking stick with his feet in the air, dances up and down, and does other remarkable feats in au nivwced position which discloses great strength of wrist and arm muscles. He then introduces his partner—a dummy representing a female—from which he extracts a lot of fun, finally surprising everyone with a grotesque head-to-head balancing feat. The more you see of Ardell the more you admire hiin—the more the convulsive risibility he provokes in you. His wrists, arms and neck are spoken of as a revelation. What is to be said of his respiratory organs? Puffing away vigorously at a cigarette all the time he goes in for all those wondrous feats which are specialities all bis very own. Last night a fine programme of moving films was shown to an enthusiastic house. For to-night, the management announce a full change of pictures, which are guaranteed to be up to top standard of excellence.
SPORTS GROUND ENTERTAINMENT. An excellent evening's programme has been arranged by the Sports Ground committee for their entertainment" tomorrow might in aid of the fund for ground improvement. It will ibe under the patronage of the Wellington and Taranaki representatives, and these alone should have a big following. All those who did not get too tired of laughing at Widow Twanky's witticisms should not fail to come and laugh again at Widow Nervesby's. The musical portion of the programme is of a very high order, and alone is well worth the chaise for admission. An old favourite with the New Plymouth public, Mr. C. Archer has kindly consented to sing, The Biograph Picture Company is providing a splendid finish by a display of some of their finest films.
