MUNICIPAL. LOAN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Last 'Night. At a meeting of ratepayers held in the Town Hall to-night the proposal of the Borough Council to raise a loan of £31,000 at 3Y a . per cent., to complete the drainage of the town, was approved by resolution. THE WAIBI MINE. Auckland, August 19. The Wiailil Goftl Mining Company, during the four-weekly period ended August 6, crushed and treated 34,852 tons of ore •for a return of bullion of an estimated value of £73.570. The total won from the mine to date is £8,745,315. NEXT BAND CONTEST. IPalmerston North, Last Night. The Band Contest Committee to-day made the following allocations of prize money for the N.1.8.8.A. contest here next February: —A grade, £IOO, first prize; £SO, second; £25, third. B grade, £iso, £25 and £ls. Quickstep, £9O, £25, £LO and £5. 'The contest has been 'fixed for from February 14 to 18.
TEACHERS" SUPERANNUATION. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the Otago Educational Institute to-night, it was unanimously decided to earnestly request the Minister of Education to amend the Teachers' Superannuation Act so as to increase the annuities drawn ;by members who retired between January 1, 1906, and October 10, 1908, and also to allow teachers, hitherto unable to join the fund, to do so as original members on conditions to be made by the Teachers' Superannuation Board.
