"I AM NOT WANTED."

A single man named Eric Smail, residing in Castle Street, is now in the hospital suffering from the effects of poison, said to be self administered. According to a statement anaue oy j.-lr. Steve Boreham, Smail was in the Trades Hall about 8.10 p.m. last night. He walked into the centre of the passage, and said: "Well, Steve, old man, 1 .un going to do it in,' whereupon he took a small bottle out of his pocket, and drank one third of the eonwnts. He immediately reeled back aua leu oft r.he floor. An emetic was administered as soon as possible, and Sinail was removed to the hospital in a serious condition. In a statement to the police, Smaihsaid: "I took it and I'll take it again, i am not wanted. A man has to work for 2s lid a day." Smail has since miproved, and is expected to recover. MAN'S BODY FOUND. ■ Dargaville, Last >iight. The body of Fred Whiteiwuse, ».ite cook of the schooner Isabella Defrafne, was found in the river to-day floating up with the tide. Deceased disappeared about two weeks ago. TRAVELLER FALLS OFF TRAIN. Palmerston North, Last Night . Arthur George, of Awahuri, iell oft' a train north of Koputaroa last night, but no particulars are available here as to | his fate. SUDDEN DEATH IN A CHEMIST'S. Auckland, Last Night. In coming up to Auckland, an old resident of Parnell, Mr. John Smj'the, died suddenly in Manakau Road this morning. After transacting business in Queen Street, he went up to Parnell by tram, and entered the shop of Mr. Murray, chemist, to inquire for tliat gentleman, who happened to "be out. Mr. Smythe was leaving the shop but nad scarcely- crossed the threshold when lie fell forward on his face. He was ptclted up, cut and bleeding about the face, artd taken back to the shop. He was still alive but expired before a medical man, who was- summoned, could arrive.
A MAN DROWNED. Wairoa, Saturday. A man known by the name of M'Masters was drowned at Opouiti on Thursday. He was crossing the Wairoa River in a boat, when it got into the rapids and capsized. His body has not yet been recovered. SERIOUSLY INJURED. Wellington, Saturday.
During the children's hospital collection procession to-day George K. fail, proprietor of a restaurant in Lambton Quay, was thrown from his pony -.art in Willis Street through the animal, slipping on the wet tram rails. One of the wheels of his cart passed over his head, and his skull was fractured. Ho it in a serious condition.
