Earl Spencer. ■Mr. Justice Walton, of King's Bench Division.

The Right Hon. J. Yoyntz, fifth Earl Spencer, was born in 1835, and was the son of the 'Lord Chamberlain and Lord Steward. He was once Groom of State to the Prince Consort, and subsequently to the Prince of Wales, has been Viceroy of Ireland, First Lord of the Admiralty, Keeper of the Privy Seal and Chancellor of the Victoria University. He owned about 27,200 acres, and is succeeded by his half-brother, Viscount Althorp. Sir Joseph Walton, K.C. (the Hon. Mr. Justice Walton) was sixty-five years of age, and was created Q.C. in 1892. He received the honor of Knighthood on his promotion to a Judgeship of the King's Bench Division in 1901. He was chairman of the General Council of the Bar, and was from 1895 to 1901 Recorder of Wigan. "
