HAllßOll BOAfID. The ordinary monthly meeting of tha Waitara 'Harbor Board was held on Friday evening, there beinjf present: Messrs. Stubbs (chairman;, Jenkins, Spuruie and Wilson. Air. (_'. .M. Town»end, the Board's 50..w.0., ..w.0., piaced elevuu leases before tile Boaru io£ signature, and stated that as there were several 'applications tor translers, he had held these over, whilst two others were m the hands of th* lessees' solicitors lor perusal. The leases were duly signed uy the Board. -.lr. Townsend aiso wrote that there' was a uillerence in the actual area ana. tnat submitted by auction, oi a reserve purchased by Air. Lund, required his full quota ox land.—-Dtcidcu tu allow Air. L.und to forfeit his lease and to put it up again. Applications for transfer from A. E. Pizzey to I'. (Skeltou, and L. H. Nimpson to J. Kempsall, were granted.
J3. H,. James and Burges and Eraser applied for new leases under the Waitara tlarbor District and Kmpowei ing Bill.— Both applications were referred to tile Valuation Committee.
Air. landlord applied for a yearly lease of the "Shipping paddock." —it was resolved to graut a yearly grazing license at £4 per anuum, on the Ustxoa mentioned by him. Air. Jennings advised that the- date had not been set down lor the lycal Harbor Bill. Messrs. Govett and Quilliam wrote in. reference to the same matter. The Hon. J. Alillar, Minister for Marine, acknowledged the Board's communication re the liarbors Bill, and mentioned that the matter referred to by the Board would receive attention.
The secretary 01 tiie Helief Society applied tor a donation towards its funds—The Society to be written to stating that the lioaru could not legally dp so, but if a collection box be sent it will be placed oil the board's counter, and collections will be sent annually. Several telegrams were received from Mr. Jennings, asking for information in reference to the acquisition of waste lands.—The secretary reported having attended to the matter. 'lhe Valuer-General asked for information as to whether the Board's unleasul lands were liable to' ibe rated.— Kates are paid by the Board. .Messrs. na trick and Co. asked if the Board would partition a portion of the shed off as an examining room for the vjusionia department; The same lirm and Messrs. Brown and Co. and Richardson, Blair and MoCabe, Ltd., wrote in reference to the supply; of hardwood. The New 1 Plymouth Harbor Board notified that they had no hardwood piles to spare. The secretary of the Waitara (Rifles asked to be relieved of sections held bj them from the Board as a rifle range, and thanking the Board for the liberal manner in which the company had been treated.—The Board will ta'ke over the section, subject to the noxious weeda being cleared. The inward and outward shipping return showed 29 boats in and out.
Mr. Stubbs reported that Mr. Woods had interviewed him in reference to the store held by them, the lease of which fell in during next February. The firm would be satisfied with half the present room at a reasonable rental for any. period the Board would grant. The New Zealand Shipping Company's manager had also spoken to him in reference to the enlargement of the dumping shed, and he had suggested the company taking up a lease adjoining Messrs. Hatricks. The manager would consider the matter.
Accounts .amounting to £l2B 17a Id were passed for payment. The chairman said that the northeast wall was being badly affected toy the seas, and was being undermined. It would be necessary to put down from 300 to 400 yards of stone at the bottom of the blocks, which would then require some cement to tie the stones together. —The matter was referred to the Works Committee.
