COLD-BLOODED PERJURY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. Frank Trembath was cuaijjett at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. Kettle,' S.M,, with failing to pay arream on] an order for the support of his Illegitimate child. In the course of his*evidence defendant stated that he had bought a postal order for los from the Post Office at Onehunga that morning, and had posted it to the Clerk ot the Court. The case was then adjourned until this afternoon, when the nearwig was resumed. Defendant repeated his statement, and signed a document' to the effect that it was true. The postal note had not, however, been by the Clerk. , "Do you still say that you told the truth about the postal note?" asked his Worship. I Witness, after some hesitation: No, it is a lie. i
I Mr. Kettle stated that he felt all along that defendant had been lying and said he did not know how he co|wa! have stood there and committed ■uch cold-blooded perjury. He was not sure whether he should not direct that a prosecution should be entered against defendant. He ordered him to pay the amount of arrears in default. He was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. Defendant was also ordered to find securities for due compliance with the! order.
