INGLEWOOD NEWS

A dance in aid of the hockey ground; was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening, and proved a pronounced success. There was a good attendance. Mr. H. Cottier, assisted by three of his family, supplied excellent music, extras being supplied by Misses (Richards and Webby. A bevy of young ladies were responsible for the supper arrangements, 'which were par excellence, and reflected credit on the managerial capabilities of those responsible. Mr. M. W. Priest made a courteous and energetic M.C. 1 understand that, financially, the dance was the most successful yet held, and that the funds will, benefit considerably by the effort. dt will interest and relieve the anxiety of the many friends of Mr. F. C. Bennett, who recently journeyed to England to have a serious operation performed to his eye, to know that Mrs. Bennett to-day received a caible stating ■ that the operation had been performed and that it had proved successful. The fortnightly meeting of the DebatI ing Society was held on Friday evening, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr. T. E. Hamerton (president) occupied the chair. The programme was speeches on any matter contained in that day's issue of the local paper. Messrs. J. iCurrie, D. M. Boldt, F. Spurdle and T. E. Hamerton delivered interesting and instructive addressee, while other members preferred the lesa arduous task of criticising the speakers. The evening was one of the best yet held in connection with the Society, and !patron9 were more than satisfied witk the amusement provided for them. Several dancing enthusiasts journeyed to Stratford on Thursday for the purpose of attending the Tennis dance there. They speak in high terms of the general excellence of the arrangements. The influenza epidemic, which ba«proved particularly troublesome locally of late, is now dying a natural death, for which the recent, warmer weather is to a great extent responsible.
