INQUEST ON CHILD'S BODY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night At the inquest 03 the body of the child found in the Avon yesterday, the medical evidence showed that' tie body ■was that of a fully matured female and had been in the river for about two months. Apparently the child had been still-born. A verdict according to the medical evidence was returned. PENSIONER FOUND DEAD. Wellington, Last Night. Alexander Allen, an Imperial pensioner, was found dead in bed in an hotel this morninu'. Deceased arrived in Wellington a f(w days ago, and went to a hotel, apparently under the influence of liquor. (He was put to bed, and this morning was found lying on the floor. He was put back into bed, and shortly after midday was found to be dead. He was 75 years of age, and a Crimea veteran. He leaves a wife at Upper Hutt, and a son at Petone.

KILLED BY A TRAMCAR. Christchurch, August 11. Moses Chambers, a wharf laborer, of Lyttelton, fell off a tramcar coming coming from the Riecarton Racecourse this evening. One of the wheels passed over his head, and he died almost immediately.

A WOMAN'S DEATH. Napier, August 11. An inquest was held to-day touching the death of Mrs. Blewden, who was found unconscious at the bottom of a cliff a week ago, and died in the hospital on Wednesday. Evidence was given to the effect that* the fence at the top of the cliff was dangerously low, and the Coroner (Mr. H. W. Brabant) postponed the verdict till to-morrow morning to enable him to inspect the spot. The medical testimony was to the effect that the woman sustained a fracture of the base of the skull, and death was caused by an oppression of blood on the brain. She had been suffering from in* somnia, and for some time had been depressed and melancholy.
