THE TRUSTEE ACT. Ey Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. A deputation representing the lessees of the Corporation, Harbour Board, and other public bodies waited on ttte Premier to urge the necessity of amending the Trustees Act and widening the field of operations of the Public Trust Office ' and State Life Insurance Office so far as lending money is concerned. It was stated that a large number of people were interested in the matter. Sir Joseph Ward said he wuuia look into the matter before giving a definite,reply. At the moment he saw no reason why the Trustee Act should not be altered in the direction asked, nor why the Public Trust Office and Life Insurance Office should not have their power extended as requested.

I TEACHING THE MAORI FARMING. Wanganui, Thursday. Mr. Gregor M'Gregor, well-known in Native circles in the Dominion, has oeen appointed manager of the Native faftt at Ranana, up the Wanganui River. The property consists of about 7000 acres, of which part is already clear. The idea of the Government is to prove whether or not young Maoris can be made farmers, and Mr. M'Gregor will employ all Maori labour if possible in developing the farm. If successful, the Native Department will extend the principle.

MONEY ON GOOD TERMS. Gisborne, Last Night I A cablegram has been received from Mr. W. D. Lysnar, Mayor, at present in London, stating that he can obtain the borough's £175,000 loan at 4 per cent., plus commission and other charges. NOBODY'S CHILD. Wellington, Last Night, On Wednesday night a male child, About one month old, was found on the doorstep of the Wellington Receiving Home. It was found to be healthy and well nourished. A letter pinrrea vo the clothing asked that it be well lookedafter and called "Jack." The police have the matter in hand.

BUSINESS AMALGAMATION. Napier, Last Night. An important combination of mercantile firms has taken place, the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Association and Wenley and Co. amalgamating. Mr. G. S. V. Wenley will in future act as adviser to the combined firm, Mr. G. Kelly retaining the position of manager.
