Stratford, Saturday. I understand that the Nobel Explosive Co. have donated a cup for competition to the Stratford Gun Club. M. H. J. Kirkwood, of Stratford, hat purchased the interest, of Mr. J. Walters in t«he Club Hotel, Marton. Preparations are being made at the Stratford dairy faetory for the installation of an up-to-date pasteurising plant. There appears to be a consensu* of opinion that the present has been one of the mildest winters experienced here. Old settlers hare delighted when ihe modern generation have complained of the liberal rainfall to remind their buyers that there was a time when they would have three -months' rain on end. The "younger set" shudder at the thought and rejoice that the climate fe improving. A maHi between hockey teams from the ladiu clubs of North and South Taranaki v. s played at Stratford to-day and resulted in a draw, each side scoring three points. There is on view at Mr. Bert Burgess* window, Broadway, a very handsome silver cup presented to the Fire Brigade by Mrs. Bishara. of Stratford. Stratford, Last Night The committee set up by the A. and P. Association for the purpose, suggest the following basis for a Utility Herd Book: cows 12lbs butter-fat per week. 2-year old heifers lOlbs per week, bulls to be eligible must have been bred from stock eligible for the book or whose stpek shall have been eligible. I'he charge shall be ss, the first 100 cowa free. Tests shall be taken from time to time by some reliable person and a committee appointed to supervise such, dairy factories to be asked to cooperate in testing. The secretary w:<s instructed to write to the Department of Agriculture for nil possible Information and on receipt of this another meeting of the com mittee will be held. At the conclusion of the service at the Anglican Church last night the Key. Favell was presented by the parishioners with a handsome travelling bag and by the vestry with a dressing case. Mr. G. Hobbs, of the Stratford staff of Mr. Newton King, returned to StraV ford this morning after a month's holiday in the north. The local Druids Lodge is holding a social on. the 24th hist. Mr. H. P. Weber, who has been on a visit to Auckland, returned to Stratford this morning. A cheeky theft was perpetrated last week., A young woman went into a local shop and asked to see some blouses. Whilst ,she was looking at these another customer came in. Shortly afterwards the first • customer left," stating that the blouses did not suit. The following day, the shopkeeper was astonished to see the woman walk past the shop wearing one of the blouses which she had been looking at, and which had been missed. The police were informed, and this morning the sequel took place, when the offender appeared at court and wile fined 10s and ordered to pay 6a damages. A man named D. Reardon, on charge's of drunkenness and indecency, was_tjus morning convicted and ordered to""c<Jme up for sentence when called upon. Mr. Wakelin,- of Toko, at present an inmate of the Hospital, is, I hear, seriously ill.
