STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Ow» Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. Through the horse bolting and bringing the gig into contact with the bank, Messrs. W. P. and E. J. Kirkwood were thrown out of the vehicle last night. Both escaped uninjured, but the gig was considerably damaged. The Fire Brigade held a very successful "social" last night. Mr. and Mrs. R. 11. Burrell, who have, ibeen residents of Stratford for the past three years, are lenving for Auckland next week to take up their residence. A well-known business man in this towin, who is a bachelor, was surprised to receive congratulations this morning tfrom a number of friends on his approaching marriage. The first man he took quietly, and wondered what had happened to upset his mental balance. But as the morning passed by and friend after friend came along and offered his congratulations, the bachelor commenced to make enquiries,as to the source. He ascertained that :at an entertainment it Jiad been predicted that a certain lady would be married next year to him, and hence the flood of congratulations. The ■victim now wants to .know "if legal proceedings can't be taken against the show i.for mentioning his name." ! Mr. C. Carley, of Cardiff, who has been an inmate of the Stratford Hospital for [ .several weeks, 'hopes to leave the instiI tution for home in a few days. There are fewer inmates in the iStrat- : ford Hospital at present than there have been for a long time, .there being only j five 'patients three female and two male. The ordinary meeting of the 'Stratford •Hospital Board has been postponed for | a week in consequence of the absence of the chairman at the Counties Conference in Wellington. Mr. Fastier, secretary of the Stratford iDairy Company, leaves for Auckland next week on a holiday.
