(The Otago and Southland Goldmining and Industrial Union of Employers passed the following resolutions to-day in cuiuiCL'lion with iiie liaif-huliday for Miners Bill: ''That this meeting protests most strongiy against the lion. Mr. Gninness's amendment to the Mining Act making a Saturday half-holiday compulsory. This amendment has not been asked for by either employers or employees in so far as mining in Otago (particularly dredging) is concerned, and is both a direct overriding or the Arbitration Court awards and an unwarranted restriction of output. We desire to record our disapproval of this improper method of interference with Arbitration Court awards; and the meeting is further of opinion that awards should be adhered to, or that the Arbitration Act should be removed from the Statute books of the Dominion." >
~ A resolution was also passed by the meeting in connection with the Weekly Day of ißest Biill, in the following terms: ''That this meeting protests against Mr. Fisdier's AVeekly Day of Resit Bill, as a direct and unnecessary interference with the Arbitration Court's award, which, after exhaustive enquiries, provides for suitable working conditions' and safeguards; and that, therefore, the introduction of the Bill lis not warranted."
