AN LXTER-TOWN DEBATE. Palmerston North, Last Night. An inter-town debate between a Wanganui representative team and the Palmerston North Debating Society, represented by Messrs. Fleming, Hoberteop, Billens and Moore respectively, was held in the presence of a large audience tonight. Wanganui took the affirmative for the House of Lords in rejecting the Budget. The result was a tie, the casting vote being given for Wanganui. IMPORTATION OF CATTLE. Dunedin, Last 'Night. At a meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society to-day, a communication was read from the secretary of the South Island Dairy Association with reference to the Government's proposal to import Jersey cattle. It was decided to protest against the Government spending £ISOO on the importation of cattle, especially Jerseys, members being of opinion that the matter might well be left to private enterprise,
