'•: ►s**:' Sir Henry Tichborne, who, fopoeeded to the baronetcy after the expoJttre of the claimant to the title, is dead. Mr. Thomas Ritchie, senior school inspector under the North Canterbury Education Board, died on Tuesday night. Amongst the passengers to Auckland per s.s. Rarawa last night were Messrs. 0. Burgess, C. A. Brown, L. M. Moateath and J. Ghadwick. Mr. John Rutherford, of the Wanganni District High School staff, has been selected for the position of headmaster of the Palmerston South District High School. Dr. J. B. 'MacDiannid, of Hawera, and recently of New Plymouth, has recovered from his recent illness, and left yesterday for a short holiday in the Wellington district. Mr. Angus Shaw, the oldest inhabitant of the Wyndham district, died on Friday last, in his ninety-second year. He was horn in Nairnshire, Scotland, in February, 1819. Mr. F. Russell Lankshear, late 6f Victoria College, Wellington, has been appointed by the Senate of the Victorian University, Manchester, to a lectureship in physics and chemistry, tenable for three years. Mr. G. T. Brown, a Presbyterian Church worker at Normanby, who is leaving for the Old Country shortly, was tendered a send-off by the local residents on Tuesday, and presented with a purse of sovereigns. Archbishop Redwood has received a cablegram from Dr. Cleary, the newiyappointed Bishop of Auckland, who is now in Dublin, stating that his consecration will take place in Enniscort&y Cathedral on August.—Press wire.
