THE RAKAIA ARRIVES

CANADA. AUSTRALIA, AND NEW ZEALAND LINKED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The steamer Rakaia, the pioneer boat of the New Zealand Shipping Company's new Canadian, Australian, and New Zealand line, arrived at Auckland this afternoon from Montreal, Melbourne, and Sydney. She has altogether 1100 tons of cargo for the Dominion to be distributed as under: —Auckland and Wellington, 350 tons; Lyttelton and Dunedin, 200 tons. At Melbourne the steamer discharged 850 tons, and at Sydney 750 tons. The princapal lines of freight consist of agricultural machinery, paper, and carbide calcium. The steamer brought several passengers from Sydney, including Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner to New Zealand. Mr. Beddoe'a headquarters will be at Auckland. The Rakaia sails for Wellington on Friday.
