PLUNKET NURSES.

GOVERNMENT HELP SOUGHT. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A deputation representing the Society for the Promotion of the Health of Women and Children waited on the Premier and Mr. Buddo to-day with tt request that the Government should renew the grant of £SOO to the Kariiane Roane and £SO to each Plunket nurse. It was stated that at present there were thirteen Plunket nurses, and ast year in the centres they attended an average of 300 oases. The Karitane HoinfJ provided a training ground for nurses.' It had beea suggested that the Home should be brought under the control of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The deputation thought such steps would be detrimental to the institution. The cost of each Plunket nurse wias £2OO, so that the public was subscribing £3 for each £1 tliat the Government was asked to subscribe. The Premier, in reply, said the Government was favorable to the work that had been carried out both by the Home amd nurses, but in regard to the request for a grant for the Home, the Government wanted to be sure that such applications would be limited to one institution. He was favorable to continuing the subsidy to a limited number of Plunket nurses.
