STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Works Committee of the Borough Council it was decided to again call the attention of the Minister to the dangerous hollow in Celia street and the necessity for filling it in. The foreman was instructed to report on the cost of erecting the weighbridge in Juliet street, near the goods shed, and also on the question of improving the entrance to King Edward Park from Fenton street. fhe town clerk was instructed to obtain prices for' a traction engine and details in connection with the wages of a competent driver. At a meeting of the local Acclimatisation Society the delegate, was instructed to wait on the Minister in regard to' matters affecting the Society. The following remits for the conference were passed: (1) That the Animals Protection Act be amended to include native game in the 1 licensed schedule, and to' allow individual societies to declare a close or open season every three years? that each district be gazetted a separate district for shooting, under the Act; that the New Plymouth Society's mention for licensing pea rifles be supported; that an endeavor be made to get the Association to support "a central game farm at Wellington to increase the number of pheasants and other suitable game.

Mr. C. D. Sole, who is representing the local Acclimatisation Society at the conference, has also been appointed the delegate for the New Plymouth Society. Mr. and Mrs. F. Hancock, of Mountain road, left by this morning's mail train on a trip to the Old Country. A case was heard in Court yesterday,, in which J. Leydon claimed from A. Cook £l3 17s 9d for services as valuator. Judgment was given for. the amount, less £3 3s paid into Court, and costs £2 13s.
