LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP OP TARAXAKL The above match, was played at Inglewood on Saturday, and proved a yery fast and exciting game. Although Eltham never had a chance from the start, they put up a good light. Miss Quinn, at full-back, in particular, put in some fine defensive work. There was a fair attendance, and the "barrack" was all for the losers, who, however, were unable to respond to frequent exhortations to "buck up." Hawera's passing among the forwards was an eye-opener for the EHham girls, the ball travelling from wing to wing to centre, centre* to wing, with great rapidity. Hawera backs had very little to do, but were safe, Miss Bantford being perhaps'the pick. The one goal that Eltham scored was the result o/ a fine bit of play on the part of Mrs.' Eggers and Miss De Launay, who rushed the ball to the mouth of the goal, where it was stopped by the Hawera goal-keeper. In the scramble which followed, Mrs. Eggers managed to find the net. Eltham, as a whole, were outclassed, although several individual players played sterling games. Misb J. Smith, at left wing, and Miss De Launay (bully) grafted hard, but the whole forward line lacked the combination, pace and cleanness of hitting that their opponents possessed. Miss Winks {left wing), A. Young (bully) and P. Young (right wing) were continually a thorn in the sides of the Eltham hacks, and were to a great extent responsible tor the size of the score. The scorers were as follows: Hawera: Miss A. Young (4), Miss Appleyard (3), Miss Maunder <?). and Miss P. Younsj (1). Eltham: Mrs. Eggers. Mr. Patterson gave entire satisfaction with the whistle. Hawera now holds the championship for the present season.—lnglewood correspondent.
