Tauira, the favorite, had the inside running, and got the .best of a bad start, caused mainly by the playing up of Paritutu and Whatakura. 'Entering the straight for the first time, Paisano had the lead by ten lengths, and wa3 never troubled all the way, winning by a length, four lengths separating second and third. Time, 4min 5 l-ssec.
