Ninety-eight per cent, of the trainmen of the Central Vermont division of the Grand Trunk Railways voted to leave the service unless their demands were granted. DROUGHT IN CANADA. Received July 17, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, July 16. There is continued drought in Western Canada, and it has reduced the wheat yield in Southern Manitoba to eight bushels per acre. The Southern Alberta crops are totally lost.
ANOTHER WIRELESS STATION. Received July 17, 5.5 p.m. Santiago, July 16. The Chilian Government is erecting a Marconi station at Juan Fernandez Island.
MONTENEGRO'S STATUS. Vienna, July 15. It is announced here that the Powers have agreed to Montenegro being created a .Kingdom in August. A DISASTROUS' FIRE. New York, July 15. A fire destroyed seven blocks of buildings at Portland, Oregon, and two hundred horses and one man were killed. A STEAMER ASHORE. Yokohama, July 15. The American steamer Mongolia is stranded at Shemidzu.
PIRATES FLEE. Hongkong, July 15. It is officially notified that the Portuguese have occupied Colowan and that the pirates have fled. ENGINEER'S WAGES. New York, July 15. The Delaware, Luckawanna, and Western Railroad has increased engineers' wages 12 per cent, and given substantial increases to other employees.
HINDOOS BURNED TO DEATH. Calcutta, July 15. ißix natives were burned to death on the roof of a residential block in Bombay. One jumped and was killed. A REPORT DENIED. Teheran. July 15. The capture of Ispahan by Kashkari tribesmen is denied.
SEDITIONARY LEAFLETS. Calcutta, July 15. More seditionary leaflets have beem confiscated in Bengal and several arrests made in Calcutta. AN ABORTIVE CONFERENCE. New York, July 15. An abortive' conference took place between officials of the Pennsylvania railroad and conductors, baggagemen, and yardmen. Neither side was inclined to grant concessions, and a strike is imminent.
JAP AND MUSCOVITE. Berlin. July 15. The iSt. Petersburg correspondent of the Tageblatt reports that the JapaneseRussian railway agreement is in course of preparation and will be announced in iugust.
