CABINET MAY HELP. j Mr. C. Carter (chairman of directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company) received the following wire from Mr. EL Okey, M.P., yesterday;— "Considerable interest is being taken in the samples. The Minister for Mines considers the industry should be kept for the people of the Dominion, and suggests that the company apply to Cabinet for the loan of money for the erection of a refinery." For the six days ending Friday, 110 barrels of oil were secured from No. 2 well, and the flow is still maintained. At a meeting of the directors last evening, it was reported that the applications for preference shares were quiU? up to expectations. Consideration of the whole question was deferred till next Fridav evening, as well as the calling of a general meeting of shareholders.
