DEVOURED BY SHARKS.

LONDONER'S AWFUL STRUGGLE FOR LIFE. Plymouth. May 14. The .harrowing story of a futile struggle for life in a, shark-infested waters Is told by the passengers who landed here from the Buckn'ell liner Fort Salisbury to-day. One nlan, they stated, was killed by a man-eater, and 'others had narrirw escapes. I The incident)occurred on the morning before the vessel reached Teneriffe, at about 6 o'clock. The cry, "Man overboard!" rang out; and a man named Vincent, of London, was seen dropping fast astern and battling for his life in the shark-infested waters.

Quickly- the liner circled around, and a lifeboat'was towered, but was scarcely in the water when it got foul of the propeller and wag'■ almost immediately cut in l two. One portion drifter away with two men clinging' to it, whilst the other occupants of the boat managed to grasp the ropes, hanging .from the boatfalls and to clamber up these to the liner's aeclc. The feeling cf the passengers; was one of high tension, and with great* eagerness they watched the lifebuoys which had been thrown to'the men; whilst at intervals sharks cou'. 1 be seen hovering in the vicinity of the wreckage. Two more boat* were quickly lowered, One tried to rescue Vincent, who could be seen some way off swimming for life, whilst the other turned its attention to the 'wrecked boat's crew. The latter were saved, but one only just in time, for as he was picked up a large shark made a rush at him.

Poor Vincent, however, perished, and his horrible fate can be imagined.
