GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Melbourne, July 4. The National Hurdle Race resulted:— Obi 1, Reckoning 2, Rogues' March 3. Non starters: Lord Desmond and Maui. The first away were Vernier and Rogues March. Gaul quickly went to the front with Ataahua, Yudnapmna and Volta handy. Ataahua and viaul led over the first hurdl£, three lengths from Volta. There was little change till approaching the half-mile, where Grenfell closed on the leaders, entering the straight on even terms. Passing the judge's- box the second wine Grenfell and Gaul were in front, followed by Harvest, Obi, Ataahu and Zoloski. Entering the straight Gaul began to tire, and dropped back, while Grenfell showed the way in tue straight from Harvest and Ataahua, and remained at "the head of affairs for half a mile. Obi then put in a claim, and, with Reckoning and Grenfell, showed the way to Yudnapinna, 'Rogues' March and Ataahua. Reckoning was first over the last obstacle, with Obi and Rogues' March at his heels, and then came Pudnapinna and King's Ransom. In an exciting run home Obi won by a length, with Reckoning six lengths ahead of Rogues' March. Grefell was fourth, finished with Gaul, last. Time smin. 49y 4 sec.
