AMUSEMENTS.
MADAME CARBENO.
Carreno, the "lioness of the pianoforte," as;the Germans call her, will be heard at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening next, in a carefully selected list of those numbers which only the greatest pianists can render adequately. Students are advised to take their scores with them, as, they will receive a valuable lesson. The sale of tickets for the concert continues with briskness at Collier's, New Plymouth, music lovers being alive to the privilege of once again having a visit from this illustrious pianist. It would over-charge any review to enumerate the many qualities obvious and] subtle, that shine forth resplendently, that domineer, that strike irresistibly, that flash out in lightning passages, peer out for a moment, or pass by evanescently, in Madame Carreno's playing any of the immortal classics of Beethoven, Chopin, iSchumann, or the various fascinating and individually characteristic emanations of Liszt and other romantics. But the dominant fact is the enormously impressive combination of the powers that are born of all the human faculties that serve insight and interpretation. Poetry, romance, ardent emotional flr&s, every variety of mechanics and so very more, all(controlled by an intellect that comprehends the «s----sentials of true art» may summarily be accepted as the evrdences furnished by her concerts.
