STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Stratford, Last Nignt. The Stratford Ladies' Hockey uub travel to Inglewood to-morrow to meet the local teaaa. Mr. G. T. Murray, district engmeer, has been appointed a commissioner to enquire into the matter of control and maintenance of the Waipuku bridge, over which there is a dispute between the Stratford and Tarauaki County Councils. Mr. J. T. Heatley's many friends were very pleased to hear of his appointment to the position of organiser of technical education under the Tarauaki Board. That there is plenty of scope for energy and enthusiasm is undoubted, and it is a pleasing sign that the country settlers are awakening to the benefits that can be gained by the combination of scientific theory with practical experience. In the past it hag been the experience of Education Boards who have established classes of benefit to the farmer, that he has been very apathetic and indifferent to the advantages that are placed within nis reach, Indeed, in, sonie, instances iji farming Ceiitos, agricultural and dairying classes have hj&& to be abandoned from lack of support. I hear that farmers in the Toko district 'have already been asking that scientific agricultural and dairying classes should be established at that township. A social in aid of improvements to the Stratford Convent is to be held shortly. Messrs. Trvine and Henry have been successful in securing the contract for the erection of a residence for Mr. M. Power on Broadway Xorth. Local contractors are complaining of the scarcity of carpenters. Stratford is steadily growing, and during this week several contracts havo been let by local residents for the erection of residences.
