SUPREME COURT.

WESTPORT SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. The Supreme Court was occupied during most of the day hearing charges 01 theft of partners-hip moneys preferred against W. G. Brosnahan, the evidence going to show that accused, though careless in his method of book-keeping, had not defrauded the firm of the moneys in question. Accused was acquitted on all charges. The Court sat in the evening bearing a claim for damages of a building contract. To-morrow Air. Justice rfim ivill be occupied with Arbitration Court business, at the conclusion of which the Supreme Court sittings will be resumed.

JUDGE EDWARDS ASTOUNDED. Napier, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, the Crown Prosecutor announced that he baa been instructed by the Crown to enter a stay of proceedings in the case of John William Goldfinch, a youth, charged with indecently assaulting a young girl. The jury had failed to agree in this case, and a re-trial was fixed for to-day. Justice Edwards said he was astounded at the stay of proceedings being entered after, only one trial and without reference to the judge. Mr. Cornford said he could make a long statement, but did not wish to unduly interrupt the civil case then proceeding. His Honor said that if the stay of proceedings had been directed by the Registrar, he would enter it accordingly, and he (His Honor) had nothing more to do with the matter.
