SEAMEN'S UNION
DEMANDS OF THE MEN. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Tuesday. Wool brokers and other large storeowners have been furnished with a list of the demands made by the Storemen's 1 Union. A forty-four hour week is demasded, with provision for payment of overtime from 5 p.m. to midnight at time and a half and double pay for all time worked from midnight to 8 a.m., and for statutory holidays; permanent head storemen to be paid £3 Gs a week; casual hands Is 6d an hour, and not less than two hours' pay, and preference to members of the union; handling manures is to be paid 10s per week extra. The new union was registered on April 29 last, and the list of demands is dated June 18. A meeting, of the local brokers will be held to-morrow to consider the demands.
