WATERING MILK.' By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, F. E. Green was fined 40s and costs, and H. J. Jarvis 20s and'costs, for sellinn- milk adulterated with water. BOY THIEVES. Dunedin, Last Night., At the citv Police Court to-day, two lads, 15y 2 years of age, named Joseph (Mitiierland and Edward Mi'hacl Wood, bad to appear to answer five separate charges of breaking and entering and theft. The evidence was to the effect that they had stolen boots, shoes, tobacco, pipes, cigars, cigarettes, shawls, ties and a dynamo, from various warehouses, and had disposed of the majority of these articles to a second-hand dealer named Oortey, a brotheT-m-law of Sutherland. A full confession was made by the boys to t':e police, and Oorley was accordingly charged with knowingly receiving 'stolen goods. Both boys gave evider/ce that they had told Corley exactly how they had got the goods, and Detectives Thomson and Hunt deposed to finding certain of the stolen property in his possession. Corlev pleaded not sruiltv, and was committed for trial. The boys pleaded guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.

SLY GROG-SELLING

Nielson, Last Night. Tn the Magistrate's Court to-day John Etheridse. px-mnster of the ketch Argus, owned bv the Burford trustees. was fined £ls and £lO on two cHnre* of sly "•rng-sellinsr on the vessel at Puponga. Etheridge had taken cases of bper from Nelson and sold the contents to miners nnd others. The defence was that defendant had effected the mere carriage nnd delivery on behalf of the orderers. The Magistrate, in convicting, said the p.vidence indicated that the owners of the vessel were not unaware of the traffic and had permitted it to »o on, as no freight was paid on the beer, which was carried as "captain's stores" —a mere absurd itv for such a short run as Puponga on such a small vessel.
