GOVERNMENT PRIZE MEDALS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The results of the competition for Government .prize medals' (adult corps) for the year ended 28th February are available. The conditions were ten shots at 600 and TOO yards (four practices of five shots each). The scoring of the top men showed some particularly brilliant shooting, both Brownlee and Carlsen (Auckland) registering twenty consecutive bulls-eyes, the former winning on the "shoot off" with three additional bulls, making, (his grand total twenty-three bulls. Gold medal for best shot in North Island—Private William Brownlee (Victoria Rifles, Auckland), 100 points (the possible). A tie was decided hy firing shot for shot at 700 yards, the result being—Private Wm. Brownlee, 5, 5, 5; Private John Carlsen, 5, 5-, 3. Gold and silver medal for second best shot in North Island—Private John Carlsen (Victoria Rifles, Auckland), 100 points (the (possible). Silver medal for best shot in Auckland distiictr-Color-Sergeant Arthur J. King (No. 3 Company New Zealand Native (Rifles), 98 points. Silver medal for ibest shot in Wellington district—Color iSergeant Charles W. Grindell (Napier Rifles), 92 points. He tied with Sergeant. W. C. Stephens (Ranfurly Rifles), the latter being counted out under Dominion Rifle Association rules.
Gold medal for best shot in the South I Island—Color-Sergeant Herbert H. Moss (Bluff Guards Rifles), 97 points. Gold and silver medal for second best shot in the South Island—Private Francis A. B. Ingpen (Popotunoa Rifles), 95 points. Silver medal for 'best shot in Nelson district Sergt.-Major William Charles Drummond (2nd Battalion Nelson Infantry), 94 points. ' Silver medal for test shot in Otago district—Private Thomas Fraser (Kaitangata Rifles), 93 points. He tied with Sergeant James Smith, of the same company, the latter being counted out. There were no competitors for the best shot in the Canterbury district. Following is the result of the competition for the Government prize medals for rifle shooting by defence cadets, conditions ten shots at 400 and 500 yards (four practises): — Gold and silver medal for best shot in the North Island—Sergeant Stephen R. i Archer (No. 1 Company, Wanganui Collegiate School Rifle Cadets), 95 points. Silver medal for hest shot in Auckland district—Color-Sergeant A. G. Devore (A Company, Auckland Grammar School Rifle Cadets), 92 points. Silver medal for ibest shot in Wellington district—Private Noel Williams (No. 1 Company, Wanganui Collegiate School Rifle Cadets), 82 points. Gold and silver medal for best shot in the South Tsland-r-Sergeant E. 0. Baigent (B Company, Nelson College Rifle Cadets), 100 points (the .possible). Silver medal for 'best shot in Nelson district—Private E. E. Rivers (A Company, Nelson College Rifle Cadets), 99 points. Silver medal for >best shot in Canterbury district-—Sergeant F. G. S. Thompson (Rangiora High School Rifle Cadets), 86 points. Silver medal for best shot in Otago district—Private R. S. Park (B Company, Dunedin High School Cadets), 97 points.
