STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. For the month of May the toUowrng payments will be made by dairy factories in this district:—Stratford £1917, Ngaere £BOI, Lowgarth £577, and Cardiff £492. Constable Bleasel Heft this morning by the mail train on a holiday visit to Rotorua. Two residents of .Stratford (Messrs. T. Boyle and J. Sexton), who have been on a holiday visit to the north, returned home this morning. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, J. J. Bourke was fined 5s and costs (7s) for allowing a horse to wander at large. A young man, for whom Mr. T. C. Fookes appeared, was charged on remand with having stolen some fruit trees from Mr. R. McK. Morrison. He pleaded 'guilty, and was convicted and fined £2 and costs. A considerable amount of civil business was also transacted.

The Stratford Defence Rifle Club 3ast night held a supper in Mrs. Brooki'ng's tea rooms as a wind up to the shooting season. Mr. gangster, the Club's president, presided over an attendance of about twenty-four, among whom was His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Masters). The following trophies were presented during the evening:—Messrs. Masters and Son's Cup, Rifleman A. E. Wickham; Mr. J. F. Watson's Cup, (Rifleman W. Sogers; Mr. W. P. Kirkwood's medal and Mr. J. McAllister's picture, Rifleman C. H. Speck; Mr. W. A. Fieldes' greenstone pendant. Mr. T. Ticihbon's watch and Mr. F. Edwards' shaving glass, Rifleman A. Mackay; Mr. C. Jackson's shaving set, Rifleman H. H. Gollop;--Mr. S. Fahey's dressin'g case (for highest aggregate for the season), Rifleman C. Hi Speck, who secured the fine total of 1180 points out of a pos-l sible 1200. Messrs. Hallenstein Bros.'i dressing case has not yet been fired for.
