WAITARA NEWS.

JTAKBOK BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary monthly meeting woa held on Friday evening, there being present—Messrs. S. 11. Stubbs (chairman), Jenkins, Spurdle and Chappell. Messrs. 11atrick and Co. wrote further re a river bank site. The chairman reported that he had, with Mr. Jenkins, pointed out a site he thought would be suitable, and it waa for the Board to say what rent would be decided as an upset, what furtheu wharf extension would be required, and as to whether a renewable lease would be granted. The site suggested is that piece of land on the seaward side of *e railway line, measuring 165 feet frontage to the wharf, with a depth of 75 feet to West Quay, a plan being submitted by Mr. C. F. Dowsett. The chairman'stated that the probable cost of erecting the additional wharf accommodation would be from £BOO to £IOOO. He thought a rental of 10s per foot would be a reasonable charge. Mr. Jenkins said Mr. Hatrick anticipated the cost of the building at about £IOOO. Mr. Chappell did 'not think the suggested rental exorbitant. It was decided to offer the site at 10s per foot for 21 years' renewable lease, conditionally on a building of not less than £SOO being erected within six months from date of purchase, the Board to add the necessary wharfage. Messrs. Thos. Borthwick and Sons replied to the Board accepting the Board's offer for a lease of their present site at ,a rental of £65 per annum. ■ Mr. Jenkins asked if it were not necessary to rescind a previous resolution when a higher rental was fixed, before the lower rental could be accepted. The chairman thought it was not necessary, as the resolution reallv lapsed, ! as three months only were allowed for acceptance.

It was resolved that the clauses of leases whereby if was necessary ior lessees to insure jointly in the name* of the Board and) lessees or in the Board's name only, be deleted from the lease.

It was decided to inform the Borough Council that the Board could not permit of further stone being taken from the east side of the river.

After passing accounts the ~eethg adjourned.
