A portion of the garrison a.t Fez, being unpaid, deserted with their arms, some officers being among the nnmoer. The Sultan's beaten troops also joined the rebels. The Moroccan loan has been largely over-subscribed in Berlin. After taking Raisuli's money for the Governorship of Alcaz.ni and surrounding tribes, the Sultan cancelled Raisuli's appointment. The Governor of Fez is accused ol extensive peculations, and has been deposed. His wife refused to reveal the hidden wealth, and was suspended by the wrist and hot irons were placed on her breast, and subjected to other infamous tortures. Her eldest son was tortured 1 so terribly that he died.
