CHEMISTS' CONFERENCE
THE OPIUM QUESTION. ' By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Federated Chemists of New Zealand continued their deliberations to-day. The . question of opium sales was discussed. and the following motions were adopted:—That sales of tincture of opium by wholesale houses be registered under similar conditions to those governing retail sales; that this meeting is of q>inion that chemists should refuse to supply tincture of opium to Chinese. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. Len McKenzie (Wellington); vice-presidents, Mr. Woolauis (Auckland); Mr. Bonnington (Christohureh), Mr. Schofield (Otago), Mr. Williams (Hawke's Bay), Mr. Kietehen (Wanganui), and Mr. Svkes (Taranaki). The balance sheet, showing a credit, was adopted. It was resolved to alTrm the principle of a Now Zealand defence fund to iprovide legal defences in ease? of prosecution under the regulations of the Pure Food and Drugs Act. Tt was decided to affiliate with the Australian Pharmaceutical Conference. The Government is to be asked to exempt chemists from service on juries.
