The Rev. Mr. Hawkins, in charge of the Maori Mission of the Auckland diocese, is on a visit to North Taranaki. A Press Association wire states that the Hon. James Carroll left Wellington yesterday for 'Huntly to attend the Maori meeting there. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) was sworn «in yesterday as Acting-CJover-nor, .pending the arrival of Lord Islington.—Press Association. The Auckland Board of Education has appointed Mr. iE. K. Mulgan, of Canterbury, eliief inspector of schools in the Auckland provincial district.
