INGLEWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL

(From Our Own Correspondent'.) 1 The ordinary monthly meeting was held in the Council offices on Wednesday evening last. Present: The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Winfield), Ors. Young, Tarplee, Gibbs, Fawcett and: Surrey. Correspondence was (head from P. H. Carstens, applying for water to be laid on to gate of this section.—The-necessary work is to be carried out. From Taranaki County Council re traffic levy, £3 15s. From the Municipal Association re the Municipal Conference. From Governor's secretary re farewell visit and address. Mr. W. H. Frankyn is to be notified that in compliance with the bye-laws he must build a Oin brick wall in his new building. The following resolution, moved by the Mayor, was carried:—'That the borough solicitor be requested to attend the meeting on the loth inst. to explain why certain borough reserves have not been gazetted as domain sections." Mr. Bunyan has been appointed ranger pro tem.

The estimates for the ensuing year were adopted.

Cr. Surrey suggested that the Finance Committee go into the matter of valuations in the district and submit a report as to amendment or new valuations. Cr. Surrey said he knew a great many instances where re-valuations had not been made for 20 or 30 years. The Mayor suggested splitting up the borough <uid each member obtaining full particulars of his own district. It was decided that the Finance Commitee. assisted by Cr. Surrey, consider the matter of valuations. The Library Committee was re-ap-pointed. Accounts amounting to £l2B 18s 3d were passed for payment. A special meeting was held prior to the ordinary meeting, when a resolution was passed authorising the striking of a rate of %d in the £ for the 'baths loan of £450.
